PHIL MALOUF WINS X-TREME 4′S FEATURE – KEVIN BURRIS TAKES OVER BANDIT POINT LEAD!

Marshfield, WI, (August 3, 2013) With the days getting shorter again, and dusk coming earlier every day, that also means that the point championships are getting increasingly exciting, with the end of the season a little more than a month away.

Eau Claire, WI driver Ben Pettis came into Saturday with mixed emotions.  With three DNF’s (did not finish), this year, he was hoping that Saturday’s feature would bring better luck to his race team.  Pettis got the night off on the right foot has he qualified 4th and made a late race pass of Mark Eswein to earn top honors in the fast heat.

Once the super late model feature drivers hit the track, it was Dean LaPointe and Brian Goodwin leading the pack to the green flag.  LaPointe, who earlier in the evening won his heat, was also celebrating his birthday.  LaPointe would lead the first four laps, then Brian Goodwin took over the top spot with an outside pass exiting turn 4.  Goodwin, who calls Tomah, WI home, would lead the next 8 circuits.  On lap 13 of the 35 lap feature event, Eugene Gregorich, Jr. grabbed the lead from Brian Goodwin and would stretch out to a 4 car length advantage.  Ben Pettis would follow suit and get by a very fast Goodwin.  Ben Pettis, now in the runner up position, set his sights on Gregorich, Jr. It was noticeable that Pettis was edging closer to Gregorich, Jr. as the two drivers completed lap 19.  Once Pettis finally worked his way to Gregorich, Jr., his next thought was how he was going to get by a very fast Gregorich.  Gregorich, who was racing the Wisz Racing race car as his car was not fixed from a wreck at Golden Sands Speedway the night prior.  Pettis worked his way to the inside of Gregorich, and the two drivers raced side by side for nearly 10 laps.  With 4 laps remaining, and the two drivers racing side by side entering turn one, the two drivers made contact with each other with sending Gregorich up the track.  Gregorich did an excellent job holding onto the car, but the contact allowed Pettis to gain a 3 car length advantage.  Another great race on the track on with Brian Goodwin and Mark Eswein.  These two drivers raced nose to tail throughout the race, with Goodwin holding the spot.  Once the drivers took the checkered flag, it was Pettis pocketing the feature win with Gregorich, Jr. finishing second.  Goodwin was able to hold off Eswein’s last lap effort to capture third place.  Mark Eswein and Ryan Hinner rounded out the top five respectively.  Colin Reffner took home top honors in the Napa of Marshfield Dash 4 Cash.

The X-Treme 4′s lined up for their 20 lap feature event, and it was Phil Malouf taking the early lead with a three wide pass of Ron Sischo and Jeff Behrens. Malouf stretched his lead by ten car lengths over Brandon Herr, whom of which grabbed second place.  Steve Hauser and Rick Brandl looked very fast and the two drivers eclipsed the second place driver of Herr by lap 5.  As Hauser powered down the shoots of the 1/2 mile paved oval, it was evident he was closing in on Malouf.  The only question was whether or not Hauser would have enough laps to reel in Malouf.  As the race neared it’s end and the drivers receiving the white flag, Hauser cut the lead to two car lengths.  However, once the drivers took the checkered flag, it was Malouf edging Hauser for the X-Treme 4′s feature win!  Rick Brandl had another solid run finishing third, and it was Derk Hauser finishing fourth, with Adam Eckes rounding out the top five.

Adam Eckes set fast time, with Malouf and Brandon Herr taking home heat wins.

Once again tonight, it was the Bandits putting on a great show in their feature event.  Rookie of the Year leading contender Dillon Mackesy grabbed the early lead in the Bandit feature event.  A few laps later, it was Kevin Burris powering by Mackesy for the race lead.  Mackesy held the runner up spot until lap 5, that was when Eric Robinson took over the spot.  Robinson, the point leader entering the night, did all he could do to run down Burris.  However tonight, it was all Kevin Burris as he motored to the Bandit feature win.  With Robinson grabbing the runner up position, Nikki Coulthurst had an impressive run taking the third position.  Scott Ciesielski and Dillon Mackesy rounded out the top five!  Burris took home the clean sweep as he also took home the heat win and was the fast timer tonight in the Bandit division.

Greenwood, WI driver Bill Lindner powered his Vintage race car to the win in the Vintage feature!

Next week, the Tundra Super Late Models will be invading Marshfield Motor Speedway.  With some of our regular drivers competing with the Tundra drivers, expect to see somewhere between 30-40 super late model drivers!  Joining the Tundra Super Late Model drivers will be the CWSSA Super Stocks, X-Treme 4′s, and the Bandits compete.
