A Wild Evening of Destruction at Marshfield!
July 3, 2002; Marshfield, WI: – It was great evening for some crazy action out here on the 1/2 mile. We began the first Eve of Destruction in 2002 with Cruiser qualifying. Rodney Feltz topped the division with quick time.
Following our salute to the USA, the Cruiser heats commenced. Scott Havlicek took home the checkered in the first heat and Brendan Klueckman won the second heat. Next Rodney Feltz attempted his pond jump once again, but with a small change. He set the ramp to jump over five cars before going over the pond. He didn’t make and landed in the middle of Langreck Lake.
The Cruiser feature was up next. Bringing their usual excite with four and five-wide racing action, Scott Havlicek led the first four laps. Brendan Klueckman wasted no time moving to the front and stole the lead from Havlicek on lap five. Quick timer Rodney Feltz worked his way through the field but was unable to obtain the top spot. Klueckman won, Feltz second, Travis Zvolena third, Josh Bell fourth and Josh Elmhorst fifth.
The winner of the Tire Race where the last driver with a tire still tied on his bumper wins was young Kyle Rasmussen of Arpin. He’s only 16 years of age, driving a Red 1988 Festiva with a little engine and sponsored by Jeff’s Auto.
Even though a Burn Out Contest wasn’t scheduled for this evenings events, three contestants showed up. Terry Gorski from Wausau won by a landslide in his Brown 1978 TransAm with a 350 engine.
The Forward/Backward Race was won by the team of Mike Dodson & Luke Hall in their 2-Man Cruiser.
Todd Langreck brought his Jet Drag Car “Incineration” out for a Smoke & Fire Show.
Specialty Fireworks out of Merrill held a pyrotechnic show where the blew-up a car.
The Relay Race was won by the team of Rodney Feltz & Steve Stewart sponsored by Feltz Auto.
The Trailer Race was won by Don Tieman Jr. of Willard with his 1985 Cady sponsored by Don’s General Repair in Willard and Scott’s Bumper-To-Bumper Neillsville.
The night ended with a Fireworks display from Specialty Fireworks.
The winner of the Wal-Mart Bicycle giveaway was Eric Foth of Marshfield.
This Saturday is Mid-Season Championship sponsored by Copps Food Stores and Coca-Cola. Gates open at 5 p.m., time trials 6 p.m. and racing 7:30. Featuring Super Late Models, Super Stocks, 4-Cylinders and Cruisers. Marshfield Super Speedway is located 3.5 miles west of Marshfield on Hwy H.
