July 5, 2008; Marshfield, WI: – The holiday weekend proved to be a great day for racing. The pits were full and the anticipation of exciting racing was building. Brian Back with double duty for the evening racing in both the super stock and Mid-American stock car had the cars hooked up as he would take a clean sweep of the super stocks and only inches short in the Mid-Am heat race of a clean sweep. Jeremiah Strauss set another 4-cylinder fast time and Ryan Mork was the quickest pure stock fast time.

The Mid-American Stock Car Series Freedom 40 Lap feature went green to checkered. Darren Wolke and Jim Thorson started out the front row. Wolke took the early lead as Bobby Gutknecht fell in tight behind him. Gutknecht moved to the outside lane working on the lead. Kyle Shear dropped to the inside of Gutknecht challenging for second. Gutknecht freed himself of Shear and was again door to door with Wolke, taking the lead on the next lap. Meanwhile most of the field was still two by two with Bill Prietzel and Tom McClintock racing for fourth. Prietzel using the outside lane took the fourth spot and then the third.

Only a couple of laps later he passed Wolke for second. Gutknecht had built up a four car length lead, but Prietzel wasted no time eliminating that lead. Prietzel moved to the inside of Gutknecht and it looked as though he was going to take the lead, but the pair came upon lapped traffic, forcing Prietzel to back down and move to the outside lane. The next attempt Prietzel tried the outside with no avail. Several laps later Prietzel dove to the inside and then made the pass for the lead exiting turn four. Lyle Nowak made a strong run to the front was sitting third quickly catching Gutknecht and diving to the inside of him in turn three to take over second. Fast timer Brian Back who started twelfth was now battling with Gutknecht for third. Nowak now with Back on his heels jumped to the outside of Prietzel for the lead. Back pulled up tight behind Prietzel with Nowak on the outside of both yet. It was a three car battle over the lead. Lapped traffic again a factor as the three had to single file and move to the outside. Prietzel continued his lead, Nowak second, Back third, Jake Finney fourth and James Swan fifth. Back moved to the outside of Nowak and Prietzel began to stretch out his lead again with only five laps to go. More lapped traffic worked to Back’s advantage this time as he was able to pull ahead of Nowak for second and then catch Prietzel for the lead.

With three laps to go, Prietzel and Back cleared the lapped traffic. At the white flag Back was still behind Prietzel and setting himself up for a run on the outside entering turn one. By the time they exited turn two they were door to door. Down the backstretch they ran dead even. Back began to pull ahead as they made their way through turns three and four. Prietzel challenged back exiting turn four. At the finish it was Back for his first Mid-American Stock Car Series feature win. Prietzel second, Nowak third, Swan fourth and Finney fifth.

Marv Flick took the early lead of the super stock feature with Dave Pagels falling into second. Flick and Pagels began to stretch out a small lead as the field vied for position behind them. Mark Langreck running in third quickly had both Brian Back and Adam Krzykowski hot on his heels. Back chose the inside lane and drove under Langreck for third. When Back opened the door, Mike Gwidt and Brian Weinfurter followed suit. Back soon caught the leaders moving to the outside lane and passing Pagels for second in turn four. Down the backstretch and into turn three Back worked his way past Flick for the lead. Gwidt moved to the outside to work on Pagels for third, but Pagels and caught up with Flick and was going for second. Weinfurter was right in there behind Pagels on the inside with all four drivers now racing for second. After several laps Pagels broke free of pack for second. Weinfurter then moved to the outside of Pagels to overtake him for second on lap 12. Lyle Nowak broke into the top five passing Langreck for fifth. Gwidt quickly followed in Weinfurter’s tracks using the outside to take third. Nowak chased down Pagels for fourth, taking the spot with only four to go. Back won taking home a super stock clean sweep and the Beway Race Products feature win award. Weinfurter second, Gwidt third, Nowak fourth and Krzykowski fifth.

Ron Sischo “Road Toad” jumped out for the early lead of the 4-cylinder race. JJ Flick followed him in the outside lane for second. Flick set his sites on Sischo and dove to the inside to make the pass sitk for the lead. Steve Hauser moved up from his sixth place start and was third challenging Sischo for second. Ricky Brandl ran fourth and Jeremiah Strauss who started 14th was already in fifth by lap six. Strauss soon picked off fourth, then third and was battling Hauser for second. With only six laps to go, Erin Schlough passed both Sischo and Brandl to take fourth. Strauss finally made the pass stick on Hauser for second with only five laps remaining. Flick’s five car length lead on the field soon was shortened as Strauss chased him down. Strauss moved to the inside of Flick entering turn three and pulled ahead for the lead as they exited turn four. Schlough gained another spot, passing Hauser for third with only three to go. Straus won, Flick second, Schlough third, Brandl fourth and Hauser fifth.

Gary Haarklau led the first four laps of the pure stock feature. Troy Engman tried to fend off Ryan Mork for second, but Mork overtook him on lap four. Lap five Mork stole the lead from Haarklau. Haarklau and Engman were now in a battle over second with Kyle Genett trapped behind in fourth. Engman took second from Haarklau and then Genett took third from Haarklau. Mork won, Engman second, Genett third, Haarklau fourth and Dean Ashbacher fifth.
