July 26, 2008; Marshfield, WI: – The night in honor of our pace car sponsors, WDEZ 101.9, Brickner Chrysler of Wausau, Cellcom, Abby Gas Service, Subway was a perfect Wisconsin night for racing. Jason Weinkauf would be the quick super late model qualifier, but would finish second to his brother in both the heat and feature. Mike Gwidt would earn the super stock fast time and win his heat, taking third in the feature. Mark Zeidler set the fastest motorcycle qualifying lap and would go on to win his heat, finishing second to Kasten in the feature. Sam Sudduth would claim his first ever junkyard warrior clean sweep.

The super late model feature was led by John Totzke Jr for the first four laps from his pole position start. Rory Melbinger hung close to Totzke’s bumper on the inside of the track. The caution flew with four laps completed, when the field re-started the caution flew again as leader Totzke and Melbinger made contact exiting turn four sending Totzke into the outside wall and ending his race. Melbinger was able to continue, re-starting at the rear. Travis Stebane would now step into the lead for the re-start. Stebane led lap five, then Chris Weinkauf would take over the lead.

His brother, Jason Weinkauf was not far behind, passing Stebane for second the next lap and began his challenge for the lead. The two Weinkauf brothers raced side by side for the lead for the next 14 laps. Eugene Gregorich Jr. wasn’t far behind holding strong in third behind the two. Stebane held his own in fourth as the last race’s feature winner Dean LaPointe rounded out the top five. With ten laps remaining, Tim Hintz had come from the back to the front to challenge LaPointe for the fifth position. Hintz would take it on lap 18 and then set his sites on fourth, Stebane. With only three laps remaining, Hintz would pass Stebane for fourth. Chris Weinkauf won taking home the Krings Motorsports of Arpin feature win award. Jason Weinkauf second, Gregorich third, Hintz fourth and Stebane fifth.

Special thanks to Jay VanDerGeest Cattle and Hartlebens’ Custom Cropping Service for sponsoring the additional super late model payout for the season.

Marv Flick led the first three laps of the super stock feature. Colin Reffner then using the inside lane took the reins for the next ten laps. Mike Gwidt and Brian Weinfurter were right behind Reffner on the charge to the front soon clearing Flick. A battle over second place between Gwidt and Weinfurter ensued with Gwidt inside and Weinfurter outside. Weinfurter made the pass stick for second after a few laps and began to shorten Reffner’s lead. The caution flew on lap 13 which was not what Reffner wanted to see. Weinfurter was caught right up to him now for the re-start and took to the inside lane diving under Reffner as they exited turn two and took over the lead down the back stretch. A challenge over the fourth spot began between Flick and Adam Krzykowski. After a couple of laps Kryzkowski was able to take a strong claim for fourth. Weinfurter won earning the Beway Race Products feature win award. Reffner second, Gwidt third, Krzykowski fourth and Flick fifth.

The hot track conditions suited the dozen cycle riders at tonights race; everyone qualified better and raced at a faster pace for the whole event. Fast time went to Ringles’ Mark Zeidler as he tripped the clocks at 21.092 In the first heat fast starting Kyle Meiers of Escanaba, Michigan was caught by Grantons Craig Lewis on lap three. They went back and forth for the remaining lapsl with Lewis squeaking by out of the last corner for the win. Second heat winner Mark Zeidler proved his fast qualifying time was no fluke as he jetted to the point coming out of turn two and put on a show of skill and bravery to the checkered flag. Steve Kasten worked his way up through the pack to a second place finish.

All twelve riders made up a three row starting line up for the ten lap feature. As the green flag waved signaling the start the dozen daredevils roared into turn one; some riders two and three wide through the turn and onto the backstretch. Fast starting Karlin Wiese of Green Bay led the first lap but was passed entering turn one by Kasten and then Mark Zeidler exiting turn two. Out front for the rest of the race, Zeidler stalked Kasten looking for the little mistake or opening to pass. As this tussle was going on Marshfields’ Cliff Eckes Jr. worked his way into third place; running the same pace as the leaders but not going faster to enable him to catch up. He had a good seat for dynamite battle up front between Kasten and Zeidler. But Kasten held a firm grip on the lead and paced the field to another close victory on the super fast 1/2 mile blacktop track.

Shawn Carpenter was the first leader of the junkyard warrior feature for three of the 12 laps. Fast timer Sam Sudduth would take the lead for the final nine laps. Carpenter had company in second as Ryan VanDerLeest challenged him. The two went back and forth until the checkered. Sudduth won, Carpenter second, VanDerLeest third, Tim Anderson fourth and Kyle Rasmussen fifth. The top three finishers receive trophies compliments of Humbird Jackets & Embroidery Werks.
