August 9, 2008; Marshfield, WI: – Culver’s night at the races brought a great treat to both the fans and the drivers. The first 100 fans to the speedway were treated to a free Culver’s oreo cookie and custard sandwich and one lucky fan won a year’s worth of custard from Culver’s. The drivers received an extra $1000 added to their feature payout and feature win trophies compliments of Culver’s. Tim Hintz earned his first super late model fast time of 2008 and would go on to win his first ever Marshfield super late feature win. Brian Weinfurter would duplicate the feat in the super stocks taking fast time and the feature. Lee Johnson was the quickest motorcycle in qualifying, but would struggle in both the heat and feature races. Sam Sudduth would claim his second clean-sweep of the year for the junkyard warrior events.

The start of the super late model feature was a wheel to wheel battle between Jay VanDerGeest and Jeff Weinfurter. The first caution flew with two laps in the books. VanDerGeest led the field at the point alone with everyone doubled up behind him for the re-start. Chris Weinkauf chose the outside of row two with Eugene Gregorich Jr. right behind him. Weinkauf stayed in the high groove and began working the lead from VanDerGeest. Lap five, Weinkauf was the new leader and Gregorich followed suit to take second on lap six. Now the battle was over the lead between the two competitors Weinkauf and Greogrich. Gregorich moved to the inside of Weinkauf on lap ten the two ran door to door. Contact in turns three and four between the leaders sent Weinkauf into a spin. Both would rejoin the field at the rear for the re-start. VanDerGeest would lead the second re-start now single file, assuming the lead back. Fast qualifier Tim Hintz wasted no time diving to the inside of VanDerGeest as they entered turn one. Hintz would solidify his lead exiting turn four. Blake Horstman was steadily working his way to the front and moved to the inside of VanDerGeest to overtake second on lap 15. Terry Schoppenhorst in his first appearance at Marshfield in several years now worked on third from VanDerGeest, taking it on lap 16. Jason Weinkauf worked his way from the back to the front to challenge Weinfurter for fifth place. Schoppenhorst drove to the inside of Horstman for second with five to go, but would not have enough laps left to chase down Hintz. Hintz won his first Marshfield super late feature and the Beway Race Products feature win award, Schoppenhorst second, Horstman third, VanDerGeest fourth and Jason Weinkauf fifth.

Special thanks to Jay VanDerGeest Cattle and Hartlebens’ Custom Cropping Service for sponsoring the additional super late model payout for the season.

The super stock 20 lap contest first lap was led by Ryan Hinner. Hard chargers Mike Gwidt, Brian Weinfurter and Colin Reffner were quickly moving to the front. Gwidt inched ahead on the inside of Hinner for the lead of lap two. Weinfurter also using the inside moved up into second the next lap. A battle between Hinner and Matt Raykowksi over the third spot now ensued with Hinner still holding strong to the second groove. Reffner sitting behind Hinner and Raykowski in fifth was trapped as the leaders began to stretch out their lead. Hinner broke free of Raykowski, allowing Reffner the inside lane to take third. Reffner began to chase down the leaders, while Weinfurter worked the outside to take the lead from Gwidt on lap 11. Reffner would continue to close in as the two battled for the lead. At the white flag lap Reffner would take second from Gwidt on the inside. Weinfurter won taking home the Krings Motorsports of Arpin feature win award, Reffner second, Gwidt third, Raykowski fourth and Adam Krzykowski fifth.

A dozen daring motorcyclists put on a spectacular show of skill, bravery and courage tonight on the super fast half mile track. Lee Johnson of Big Falls tripped the clock at 21.499 to end up fast qualifier. Ted Strebe of Marshfield broke free from the pack in the first heat to claim his first ever victory out here.

Lee Johnson brought the crowd to their feet with a first lap slide out that took him and his flaming cycle out to the edge of the wall before he recovered to miraculously ride away. He finished the heat race but was no longer a front runner after his brush with the tarmac. Hatley’s Steve Kasten held off Mark Zeidler of Ringle to claim the heat two win.

In the ten lap feature race Mark Zeidler timed the start perfectly and led the field for the whole ten laps to take the win. He was chased, paced and harassed the whole way by Steve Kasten who searched for a way by that never materialized. Marshfield’s Cliff Eckes Jr. worked his way through the pack to finish third.

Matt Phelps led the first seven laps of the junkyard warrior feature. Fast timer Sam Sudduth was already there to take over the lead. Phelps continued strong in second while Kyle Rasmussen came from the back to the front to challenge Dustin Paul and Tim Anderson. Sudduth held on for the win and the clean sweep, Phelps second, Rasmussen third, Anderson fourth and Paul fifth. The top three finishers of the feature win trophies compliments of Humbird Jackets & Embroidery Werks.
