Sauter Jr. Strikes Again in Marshfield Super Lates! By Mary Langreck

July 20, 2002; Marshfield, WI: - It was a muggy evening for Bumper-To-Bumper, WIX Filters and WYTE 96.7FM's night at the races. Burton Brown with his first night here this season set quick time in the Super Late Model division. Tim Hintz set a new track record in the Super Stock division. Larry Will from Batavia, IL drove up for quick time in the Legends and Rodney Feltz topped the Cruiser division.

Jim Sauter Jr. (#5) avoided the early race incidents which claimed several drivers in the Super Late Model feature, and he went on to score a convincing victory. Tim Hintz (#1) scored his first career fast qualifying effort and backed that up with a feature victory. Garrett Will (#79) took the lead late in the Legend Car feature and then held on for the victory. Rodney Feltz (#Z2) has come on strong here at Marshfield Speedway in Cruiser action.  He topped the feature again this evening.

After four attempts to start the CARQUEST Super Late Model feature the field was single filed and the race began. Pete Kempf jumped out from his pole position start for the early lead. Russ Weiler, Ben Pettis, Eugene Gregorich Jr. and Kirby Kurth hot on Kempf's heels. Gregorich quickly moved up in to the second spot on lap four. Kurth and Jim Sauter Jr. followed Gregorich to the front. Sauter didn't stay behind Kurth and Gregorich for long.

On lap ten he powered past them for the second spot and several laps later took the lead from Kempf. Kempf held onto to second until lap 20 when Kurth passed him. The following lap Pettis, Jeff Weinfurter and M.G. Gajewski went around Kempf for third, fourth and fifth. Weinfurter passed Pettis for the third position but was unable to obtain second from Kurth. Gajewski moved up to pass Pettis for the fourth spot. Sauter won, Kurth second, Weinfurter third, Gajewski fourth and Pettis fifth.

The CARQUEST & Coca-Cola Super Stock feature went much smoother with only one caution on lap three that sent DuWayne Davis and Matt Raykowski spinning down the front straightaway. Brian Schmutzer led the first four laps until Keith Bohmsach put his car out front. Andy Simonis and Tim Hintz were quickly moving through the field running second and third by lap five.

Hintz passed Simonis for second and then took the lead from Bohmsach on lap nine. Cale Laessig won the feature last week therefore placing him 14th for a start position was up to fourth by lap nine. Shawn Stelzer running close behind in fifth. Stelzer and Laessig battle for the remainder of the race over the fourth spot. Hintz won, Bohmsach second, Simonis third, Stelzer fourth and Laessig fifth.

Eric Lokemoen led the first four laps of the Legends feature. Elliott Weiler grabbed the lead on lap five and Josh Schoenick overtook the second spot. The caution came out on lap 12 when Dave Keays and Lokemoen spun down the back straight. Lokemoen was unable to continue. Schoenick challenged Weiler for the lead and just as Weiler got the top spot back he spun coming out of turn four bringing out the yellow. Schoenick inherited the lead, but it was short lived as Garrett Will drove by him on lap 17 and held on for the win. Schoenick finished second, Keays third, Larry Will fourth and Dan McGiveron fifth.

The first lap of the Bumper-To-Bumper Cruiser feature was led by Darrell Paschel. Laps two and three were led by then point leader Travis Zvolena. Lester Kuehn led the following two and then Rodney Feltz took over for the win. New point leader Josh Elmhorst moved into the second spot and stayed there on lap eight. Randy Meyer driving Scott Havlicek machine fourth and Brendan Klueckman fifth. Feltz won, Elmhorst second, Kuehn third, Klueckman fourth and Steve Bores fifth.

DeBoer Inc. sponsored the horse show at the Marshfield Fairground this weekend and brought out some of the trainers to race the IROC Saturns. Roy Schwab started out in the lead but was passed by Doyle Zimmermann on lap four of the ten lap race. Ryan McKillips and Troy Moon passed Schwab for second and third for lap five. Zimmerman won, Moon second, McKillips third, Schwab fourth and the birthday girl Rhonda Spratto in fifth.

Eugene Gregorich Sr. won the Super Late Model Mechanics race in Eugene Gregorich Jr.'s car. Jason Szymkowiak won the Super Stocks with Andy Simonis' car. Todd Tyrolt won the Legends with Dan McGiveron's machine. And Randy Meyer won the Cruisers with Brendan Klueckman's car.

The winner of the Wal-Mart bicycle was Joseph Meyer of Marshfield.
