By Wayne Bervik |
July 17, 2004; Marshfield, WI: - The Dental Clinic of Marshfield night hosted the Mid-State
Touring Series Limited Lates instead of the CARQUEST Super Lates. Neil Knoblock showed the
way with fast time in Late Models. Tim Hintz scored another fast time in the Super Stocks
and Jeremiah Strauss set his first fast time of the season in the 4-Cylinder division.
Two IROC Saturn races were also part of the program as deBoer Inc. hosted a VIP
party, six of their guests from Horse show in Marshfield raced. The drivers were from
Milwaukee, Cottage Grove, Barneveld, Michigan, Kansasville and as far as Tennesee. The
winner of the deBoer Inc. race was Louis Huffnagel from Tennesee. The other race was also
from the host of a VIP party, American Fence and the winner of that race was Lee Nelson.
The IROC Saturns may be rented for a race and night, contact the Speedway for details and
scheduling.
The Mid-State Touring Series Limited Late Model 25 lap feature had three lead changes.
Brent Strelka took the lead from his outside-pole start. The entire field stayed tight and
side-by-side for many laps. Travis Dodson was able to move up a couple of spots to take
the second spot from Larry Olson on lap five. Paul Block ran fourth and Tom Gee fifth.
Block pulled ahead of Olson for third on lap seven. Gee followed suit the next lap,
pushing Olson to fifth. Lap ten, Wayne Lodholz broke into the top five. Lap 13, Block
passed Dodson for second and began working on the leader. Lap 14, Block took the lead from
Strelka on the outside.
Justin Woller had began steadily working to the front from his 11th place start moved
into the second spot on lap 17. Within two laps he was challenging Block for the lead. Lap
21, Woller overtook Block for the lead. Jeremy and Justin Switlick had both worked
themselves into the top five at this point. The only caution flew on lap 22 for Travis
Dodson in turn three for a flat tire. Woller led the field for the restart, Block held
second, but a strong run from Jeremy Switlick took it from him on the white flag lap.
Woller won, Block not giving up came back to take second, Jeremy Switlick third, Gee
fourth and Justin Switlick fifth.
Rick Hetzel led the first four laps of the CARQUEST Super Stock feature. The first caution
flew on lap two for contact on the frontstretch that put Randy Emmerich in the wall and
out of the race as well as Roger Stanczyk also forced to pit for damage. Hetzel led the
restart, Travis Zvolena second, Jim Cormack third, Larry Schultz fourth and fast timer Tim
Hintz fifth. Hintz, wasting no time, passed three cars and took second the next lap, and
then the lead. Hetzel held on strong in second until he was overtook by Cale Laessig on
lap ten. The only other caution flew on lap ten for the spun car of Travis Zvolena. Hintz
held the lead, with Laessig, 2003 Track Champ Tim Plowman third, Cormack fourth and Hetzel
fifth. Schultz moved back into fifth on lap 13. With only three to go, Schultz passed
Cormack for the fourth spot. Hintz won, Laessig second, Plowman third, Schultz fourth and
Cormack fifth.
The 4-Cylinder feature was led at first by Keith Kemnetz and then by Steve Hauser. Hauser
stretched out his lead, but not quite enough as Kevin Eckes grabbed the lead on lap 13.
The first caution flew on lap 13 for the spun car of Erin Schlough. When the field
restarted, the caution was out again for the spun car of Adam Eckes. It was a
green-white-checkered finish as Kevin Eckes won, Hauser second, Paul Berg third, Keith
Wirtz fourth and JJ Flick fifth.
The team of Josh Boyer and Dustin Clark won the 2-Man Cruiser feature. Mike Dodson and
Luke Hall second, and Dan Szymkowiak and Ryan Pionek third.
