ZEIDLER ZAPS BLACKTOP
Sixteen cycle riders put on the two wheeled thrill show tonight at the Eve of Destruction
race program. Mark Zeidler of Ringle turned in the fast qualifying time of 21.029, while
Steve Kasten of Hatley tripped the clocks at 21.644 and Big Falls Troy Johnson bringing
out a new ride to third fastest at 21.763. In the first heat TJ Zeidler held off Steve
Kasten for five laps, but Kasten led the lap that counted. Randy Ruffi , one of the riders
who was injured at the last event out here, strapped back on his steel shoe and put in a
good ride to finish third. Mark Zeidler took the lead down the backstretch from Brad
Seavers of Junction City and clicked off six perfect laps to make the second heat the fast
heat for pole position in the feature. With a delay for track cleanup, a group of sixteen
riders mounted up for ten quick laps. First heat winner Steve Kasten led the pack for the
first lap, but Mark Zeidler showed his fast qualifying time and second heat win were no
fluke as he set out and passed Kasten on lap two and stretched his lead throughout the
race. Marks brother TJ came up through the field to challenge Kasten for second after
displacing Brad Seavers after a five lap battle. Kasten held of TJ Zeidler for the second
spot at the checkered flag, but tonights race program was a show of Mark Zeidlers skill
and speed tonight as he overwhelmed the field for his first feature victory on the
blacktop.
