Weinfurter Captures Season
Finale Feature and Track Title!

September 4, 2004; Marshfield, WI: - The Coca-Cola Season Championship night started out with Dean
LaPointe a mere 12 points behind leader Jeff Weinfurter. With a close race for the
CARQUEST Super Late Model points championship, the racing action heated up. Ben Pettis
took the top qualifying spot for the Super Lates. Tim Hintz with a clean sweep in the
Super Stock division wrapped up the second spot in points. Jeremiah Strauss was the
4-Cylinder fast timer and feature winner. Cody Meyer also scored fast time and the 1-Man
Cruiser feature win.
The close points race made the feature for the Super Lates more exciting as Dean
LaPointe took the early lead. LaPointe was followed by Judd Brandl, Jay VanDerGeest and
Eugene Gregorich Jr. Jeff Weinfurter who started in the fifth row quickly raced to the
front and was in second when the first caution flew on lap nine for contact with
VanDerGeest and Chad Holm. While attempting a double file restart the caution flew again
as Mark Mackesy spun. Single file for this restart, LaPointe led the field with Weinfurter
waiting to make his move. Brandl raced third, fast timer Ben Pettis fourth and Gregorich
fifth. Lap 15 the third and final caution flew for contact between Greg Weinfurter and
Brian Back that caused Weinfurter to spin. Back took the blame allowing Weinfurter to keep
his sixth place position. Lap 16 saw Jeff Weinfurter pass on the inside of LaPointe for
the lead. Pettis and Brandl battled back and forth for the third spot. Jeff Weinfurter
took home the win and the 2004 Points Championship, LaPointe second, Pettis third, Brandl
fourth and Gregorich fifth.
Dave Neitzke led the first nine laps of the CARQUEST Super Stock feature with Tuffy Myer
racing close behind in second. The only caution flew on lap nine as contact caused Wes
Coon’s car to spin and hit the wall. That incident also forced the 2004 Super Stock
points champion Cale Laessig to retire to the pits for the night. Jim Cormack took the
lead from Neitzke on the restart. Larry Schultz also passed Nietzke to move up to second.
Tim Hintz wasted no time getting to the front and moved up behind Schultz in the third
spot. Schultz passed Cormack for the lead on lap 13, and on lap 16 Hintz took the lead
from Schultz. Hintz held on for the win, Schultz second, Cormack third, Travis Zvolena
fourth and Shawn Stelzer fifth.
The 4-Cylinder semi-feature was won by Scott Gascoigne with Ricky Brandl second. Both
advanced to the feature race.
Adam Eckes led lap one and two of the 4-Cylinder feature. Dale Louze led the next five
laps. Fast timer Jeremiah Strauss then moved up into the lead and held on for the win of
the caution free 4-Cylinder feature. JJ Flick came from deep in the field for second,
Keith Wirtz also started at the back moved up for third, Kevin Eckes fourth and Steve
Hauser fifth.
The 1-Man Cruiser feature was led and won by Cody Meyer. Matt Cournoyer raced second
unable to take the lead. Dave Knauf finished third, Sam Sudduth fourth and Wayne Dietz
fifth. The 1-Man Cruiser 2004 Points Championship was won by Pat Dickman.
The winner of the 2004 Marshfield Super Speedway Dodge SRT/4 pace car was Bob
Aschenbrenner of Stratford. The pace car was sponsored by WDEZ 101.9FM, Rainbow Casino
& Bingo, Subway, CARQUEST, V&H Inc., Abby Gas Service, Burt Trophy & Awards
and Craft’s Trading Center.
Next Saturday is The Rainbow Casino & Bingo WI Challenge Series Championship with a 75
Lap Super Late Model Feature. Plus the 4-Cylinder and 2-Man Cruisers Season Championships.
Adult grandstand admission is $12.00, Students ages 10-15 $6.00, and under ten free. Pit
gate opens at 2 p.m., grandstand gates open at 5 p.m., time trials at 6 p.m. and racing at
7:30. Raindate is Sunday, same times.
