Fan Appreciation MACCI
Business After 5 Night
Swept By Gregorich!
By Mae Schultz |
June 14, 2005; Marshfield, WI: - Many race fans and business people from Marshfield came out for
the annual MACCI night. Eugene Gregorich Jr.
took quick time and won the Super Late Model feature.
In the Super Stocks Andy Simonis grabbed fast time and Matt Pyburn won the
feature. Paul Berg in the 4-Cylinder division
was fast timer and Steve Stewart took the feature.
The exciting CARQUEST Super Late Model feature had lots of
action with Eugene Gregorich Jr. and Elliott Weiler taking to the outside groove working
their way to the front. Dean LaPointe led the
first four laps until Gregorich overtook him for the lead.
Weiler began challenging LaPointe for the second position on lap nine
jumping to the outside groove in turns one and two. By
the end of the next lap Weiler had taken second. Weiler
then began trying to chase down Gregorich for the lead.
Kempf was also racing the outside groove advancing to the front of the field
and 13 laps in passed Jay VanDerGeest for the fourth spot.
John Totzke Jr. then drove to the inside of VanDerGeest in turn one, but was
unable to make the pass and several laps later Totzke was forced to pit due to tire
troubles. With only ten laps to go in the 25
lap contest, lapped traffic became a factor. Gregorich
continued strong in the lead with Weiler in second trying to catch him. Lap 17, Ben Pettis made the pass on VanDerGeest for
fifth. Just after Gregorich received the white
flag, the caution flew for a car spun in turn two. Since
the leader was shown the white, the race was called complete. Gregorich won his first feature here this season. Weiler second, LaPointe third, Kempf fourth and
Pettis fifth.
The CARQUEST Super Stock feature was led by Randy Meyer for the first
two laps. Brian Weinfurter led the next five
laps. Andy Simonis grabbed the lead for one
lap until Weinfurter gained it back. Simonis
and Weinfurter battled for the top spot for several more laps with Simonis leading one
more yet before Weinfurter led again. Bo
Bennish then moved up to challenge for the lead. Weinfurter
raced the inside with Bennish outside as Matt Pyburn inside and Cale Laessig outside raced
for the third spot. Weinfurter and Bennish
raced door to door at the white, but as they came through turns three and four there was
contact and the caution flew. Since the white
had been shown, this race was complete. Weinfurter
and Bennish were both scored to the rear under the contact rule and Matt Pyburn moved up
to take his first ever Super Stock feature win. Laessig
finished second, Simonis third, Randy Emmerich fourth and Travis Zvolena fifth.
The 4-Cylinder feature had four lead changes. Kevin Eckes led the majority with Paul Berg
grabbing the lead for two laps in the middle of the race.
Three wide racing the way most of the drivers earned their spots. Eckes had gotten back the lead but was now being
challenged by Steve Stewart. Stewart led only
the final lap to win the race, Eckes second, Erin Schlough third, Dale Louze fourth and
Dylan Hockin fifth.
