Gregorich Takes Two In A Row,
Zvolena First Super Win!
By Mae Schultz |
June 18, 2005; Marshfield, WI: - St. Josephs Hospital night at Marshfield Super Speedway was
one of close racing and few accidents with Eugene Gregorich, Travis Zvolena, J.J Flick,
and Cody Meyer pulling out feature wins.
The super late model feature started out with Pete Kempf
quickly taking the lead, but with 15 laps to go, Eugene Gregorich, who came up the pack
from his 12th place start, charged from third to steal the lead. A caution
caused by trouble with John Totzkes car slowed down the action a little, but
Gregorich kept the lead through the restart. Ben
Pettis gave Gregorich a good fight for the lead in the last few laps but Gregorich held
him off to win the race. Ben Pettis, who had the fast time in qualifying, finished second,
with Elliot Weiler third, Keith Bohmsach fourth, and Pete Kempf fifth.
Travis Zvolena snatched his first super stock feature win, fighting
off Andy Simonis who was on his tail for most of the race. Zvolena took the lead early in
the race with 17 left by using the inside groove. Later, with 10 laps to go Simonis caught
up to Zvolena and tried multiple times to over take him in the corners. But Zvolena fended
him off to take the checkered. Bo Bennish, who was in third for much of the race, almost
lost it in the last lap when his back end broke free. He was able to regain control and
finish third, with Cale Laessig, who had the fast qualifying time, fourth, and Randy
Emmerich fifth.
Adam Eckes started the mini stock feature strong by jetting from
fourth to the lead in the first lap. Later, Erin Schlough snuck between Eckes and Jeremiah
Strauss to take the lead with 11 laps left. But after his move to first place, four cars
got together causing an accident which Chad Dietsche accepted blame for. After the
restart, Schlough lost momentum and fell back to fifth place. J.J. Flick pushed up from fourth to take the lead
from the outside with 5 laps to go. Flick and Paul Berg battled for the lead during the
remainder of the race, but Flick pulled out the win. Berg was second, Dan McGiveron third,
Adam Eckes fourth and Erin Schlough fifth. Kevin Eckes, who had the fast qualifying time
was caught up in the accident, finished fourteenth.
Cody Meyer followed up his win last week with another win on Saturday
in the one-man cruiser division. He started
first and his lead wasnt challenged. David Knauf, who had the fast qualifying time,
finished second with Tim Dickman third.
