Weinfurter and Simonis Scores Feature Wins!
By Mae Schultz |
July 23, 2005; Marshfield, WI: - The WDEZ, Bill Sherman and Dental Clinic of Marshfield night at
Marshfield Super Speedway treated fans to some exciting and unpredictable races. Jeff
Weinfurter snatched the Super Late Model Feature win, Andy Simonis won the Super Stock
Feature and Cody Meyer took the Cruiser Feature win.
Cautions and clever racing created some surprising action in
the Super Late Model Feature. Rookie Tim Hintz began the race with the pole, but he had to
fight off Josh Bell to keep the lead from the very beginning. Then, with 13 laps to go,
Darek Gress came around on the outside to grab first place from Hintz, Eugene Gregorich
Jr. followed to take second, pushing Hintz back to third. Then Hintz spun out, and a
caution followed. A lot changed after the caution. Gress fell to the back and Jeff
Weinfurter, who started third on the restart, charged up on the inside to steal second and
then first place. Weinfurter, who had the fast qualifying time, held the lead and achieved
his second win in three weeks. Gregorich finished second, Brian Back third, Josh Bell
fourth and Ben Pettis fifth.
The caution flag flew early in the Super Stock feature when Wes Coon spun out in the
fourth lap. After the caution, Matt Cournoyer, who had been leading the race, fell to the
middle of the field. With 13 laps to go, Andy Simonis took first place on the outside. He
pulled away from the field and went basically unchallenged for the remainder of the race.
The action was in the battle for second place between Bo Bennish and Brian Weinfurter.
Bennish prevailed in turn three with seven laps to go. After the white flag flew, Matt
Pyburns car started to spark from the front wheel. A caution was called and the race
was considered finished. Simonis took first, Bennish second, Weinfurter, who had the fast
qualifying time, third, Randy Meyer fourth, and Travis Zvolena fifth.
Cody Meyer started the Cruiser Feature third but charged to take first place in the first
lap. He held it to the end of the race, but it wasnt easy. With three laps to go,
David Knauf caught up to Meyer and tried both the inside and the outside grooves to get
around him. When the white flag flew, they were nose to tail, but Knaufs efforts
went unrewarded because Meyer held him off until the checkered flag. Meyer finished first,
Knauf, who had the fast qualifying time, finished second, Tim Dickman third, Wayne Dietz
fourth, and Marc Baldwin fifth.

Last weekend T J Zeidler of Ringle , Wisconsin hit a haybale at another race track, got
knocked out and received a ride to the hospital. Tonight he paced the field in the heat to
a first place finish with local rider Cliff Eckes Jr hot on his heels in second place. All
eight riders transferred to the final for a 10 lap shootout that raged all race long. But
this race joining Zeidler and Eckes were Steve Kasten from Hatley and Randy Ruffi
fromDuluth in a back and forth meelee. Kasten led off the line with Eckes thundering by on
the outside down the backstretch; then entering turn three Zeidler swept by both on the
high line. Ruffi lurked in their shadows waiting for his turn at the point. Eckes held the
point the first lap, but Kasten surged ahead down the backstretch for lap two. Zeidler
took his turn out front on lap three with a full throttle blast around turns three and
four in an attempt to break away from the snarling pack. But Kasten and Eckes held their
ground and sped past once Zeidlers abused tires lost grip. Ruffi tucked in behind
those two and Zeidler was relegated to fourth at the finish line. Craig Nigh led home the
second pack battle for fifth.
