Weinfurters Score Feature Wins
By Mae Schultz |
August 13, 2005; Marshfield, WI: - The Marshfield News-Herald night at Marshfield Super Speedway
treated race fans to some competitive races and close finishes. Jeff Weinfurter took first
in the Super Late Model Feature, Brian Weinfurter in the Super Stock Feature, Steve
Stewart in the 4-Cylinder Feature and Troy Engman in the 1-Man Cruiser Feature.
Early in the Super Late Model Feature, the race was three-wide
for first with Tim Hintz, Elliott Weiler and Darek Gress. As the field entered turn one
Greg Back and Tim Hintz made contact with each other causing a caution. Back hit the wall,
but was not hurt. After the restart, Jeff
Weinfurter charged ahead to take first place. Ben Pettis, who had restarted in fourth
place, worked his way up to second. With ten laps to go, Pettis started to catch
Weinfurter and challenged his lead. For the remainder of the race, it was close racing
between Pettis and Weinfurter. Pettis kept trying to use the inside groove to overtake
Weinfurter, but couldnt quite make it happen. In turn three of the last lap, Pettis
tried to slide around Weinfurter on the outside. It looked like he might get the win, but
Weinfurter held strong and snatched the checkered flag. Points leader Pettis took second,
Eugene Gregorich third, Weiler fourth, and John Totzke fifth. Joe Krzykowski was the fast
qualifier.
In the Super Stock Feature, Brian Weinfurter pushed his way up from
the middle of the pack to lead the race and demand the win. Andy Simonis slid around Chad
Scholl on the outside to take first place with 13 laps to go. But, by the middle of the
race, Weinfurter had taken second and was gunning for the number one slot. Simonis didnt make it easy for him, he held
Weinfurter off on both the inside and outside grooves. With five laps to go when they were
neck and neck, Weinfurter shot around Simonis to steal first. After the white flag flew, an accident caused a
caution but the race was called complete. Weinfurter took first, points leader Simonis got
second and Bo Bennish third. Fast qualifier Cale Laessig took fourth, and Scholl fifth.
Steve Stewart nabbed the lead early in the 4-Cylinder Feature, but he
had to race hard to keep it. With ten laps to
go, Stewart was leading the race when the yellow flag flew.
After the caution, J.J. Flick fought Dale Louze for third place and won. One
lap later, with seven to go, Flick took second from Steve Hauser on the outside. Then the race for first place heated up between
Stewart and Flick. Flick tried everything he
could to pass Stewart, using both the inside and outside grooves. But Stewart held him off
until the end and won the race. Points leader Flick took second, Hauser third, Dan
McGiveron fourth, and Derk Hauser, who was the fast qualifier, took fifth.
The 1-Man Cruiser feature started out with lots of action, when the
leaders took the race three wide in the first lap. David Knauf eventually took the lead,
Cody Meyer second and Wayne Dietz third. With seven laps to go, Troy Engman, who had
started ninth pushed his way up to take second place on the outside. Then, he started to
hunt down Knauf for first. He tried multiple times to overtake the leader. With two laps
to go, he was finally successful and took the lead. With a clean sweep, Engman won the
race (was fast qualifier and heat winner), Knauf second, points leader Cody Meyer took
third, Justin Moore fourth and Wayne Dietz fifth.
The powder puff Super Stock race was won by Christel Simonis with
Kathy Raykowski second. Missy Pitts won the
4-Cylinder race over six other drivers. Shelby
Langreck won the 1-Man Cruiser race over two other drivers.
