By Sara Johnson |
June 3, 2006;
Marshfield, WI: - The Sternweis & Sons Concrete and
Mountain Dew race night super late model quicker timer was Chris
Weinkauf. Wes Coon grabbed fast time in the super stocks. Kyle
Opelt was fastest in the 4-cylinders. Justin Moore made a
clean-sweep of the 1-Man Cruisers events and Troy Engman did the
same in the Pure Stocks.
The super late model feature began with a battle
between the 15 cars. Rick Grunden led the first two laps, then
Dean LaPointe led the next four. Ben Pettis led the following
lap, but LaPointe came back to lead the next one. The first
caution came out for the spun car of Doug Drost in turn two.
Fast timer Chris Weinkauf had been working his way to the front
very quickly and before the caution was already in third. Lap
nine Weinkauf shot ahead of both Pettis and LaPointe to take
over the lead. LaPointe continued to race hard in second with
Pettis, Eugene Gregorich and Jay VanDerGeest all waiting for
their chance to advance. Pettis rallied back against LaPointe
and re-claimed the second spot. Gregorich then moved up to take
over third. Lap 19, contact between VanDerGeest and Jeff
Weinfurter sent cars spinning. Tim Hintz and MG Gajewski got
tangled together and Hintz’ car climbed up on top of Gajewski’s.
Thankfully the drivers were alright, but none were able to
finish the race. Weinkauf continued with his strong lead for the
re-start right to the checkers. Gregorich passed Pettis for
second, Pettis third, Jason Weinkauf moved up to fourth and
LaPointe fifth.
Larry Schultz led the first two laps of the super stock feature.
Denny Jo Crass led the next six. The first caution came out on
lap six for the spun car of Randy Meyer. When the race resumed,
Wes Coon moved up into the second spot, Brian Weinfurter third,
Chad Scholl fourth and Matt Raykowski fifth. Coon passed Crass
for the lead on lap nine. Weinfurter then began working his way
by Crass. Lap 11 Weinfurter took second. The caution flew the
final time on lap 13 for a blown radiator in Luke Bravener’s
car. The race re-started single file, Scholl started to work the
outside lane to get by Crass. With only three to go, Scholl took
that third spot. Meanwhile, Weinfurter was racing his way to the
front looking to take the lead from Coon. As Coon took the
checkers for the lead, Weinfurter was able to pull up with his
nose to Coon’s rear tires, but Weinfurter didn’t have enough to
take the lead. Scholl finished third, Crass fourth and Raykowski
fifth.
The 4-cylinder feature was led by Dan McGiveron the first two
laps. JJ Flick had worked his way from his ninth place start to
take over the lead. McGiveron continued to race in the second
spot until Paul Berg passed him on lap ten. Fast timer Kyle
Opelt was already up to the fourth spot with Steve Hauser fifth.
Opelt and Hauser both passed McGiveron for lap 11. Opelt then
passed Berg for the second spot with three laps remaining. Opelt
was unable to challenge Flick for the lead. Flick won, Opelt
second, Berg third, Hauser fourth and McGiveron fifth.
Don Elmhorst led the first lap of the 4-cylinder semi-feature.
Adam Krzykowski then took the lead and held out for the win.
Chris Langreck finished second, both advanced to the feature.
Todd Hoeper led almost the first half of the 1-Man Cruiser
feature. Justin Moore then took the lead to complete his
clean-sweep. Hoeper held on in second, with Wayne Dietz third.
There was a battle back and forth between Mike Denny and Travis
Paul. With only four laps left of the 14-lap contest, Paul won
the battle. Moore won, Dietz second, Hoeper third, Paul fourth
and Denny fifth.
Matthew Schmidt led the first lap of the 12 lap Pure Stock
feature. Skylar Domine then took charge of the lead for the next
two laps. Ron Kundinger then ran in second, Kyle Genett third,
Jeff Behrens fourth and Tom Podratz fifth. Genett then passed
both Kundinger and Domine for the lead on lap six. Chad Simone
worked his way into the top five on lap five. The next lap
Simone moved up to fourth and then the following lap third.
Engman passed Genett for the lead on lap six. Engman won, Genett
second, Simone third, Kundinger fourth and Behrens fifth.
