June 10, 2006;
Marshfield, WI: - The families were out for St. Joseph’s
Children’s Hospital and 101.9/WDEZ Kids Night. The first 100
kids through the gate were given a goody bag, plus all the
children had the opportunity to take a ride in a stock car.
Brandon Selle was the super late model fast timer. The
super stock quick timer was Matt Pyburn. Steve Stewart grabbed
another 4-cylinder fast time. Justin Moore timed in quickest in
the 1-man cruisers and Mike Gwidt made a clean-sweep of the pure
stock division.
Troy Nelson jumped out from his pole position start to lead the
field for the CarQuest super late model feature. Ben Pettis, Jay
VanDerGeest and Eugene Gregorich Jr. all battled for the top
five spots. By lap five Gregorich broke into the second spot and
began chasing Nelson who had already a big lead on the field.
VanDerGeest and Time Hintz battled back and forth over the third
spot. Chris Weinkauf was racing behind those two in the fifth
spot and on lap 14 went three-wide to the outside to overtake
both of them and earned the third position. Lap 19 the only
caution flew for the spun car of Mike Sievers, he was unable to
continue. Nelson now lost his big lead as the field was now
right behind him for the restart. Weinkauf moved up into the
second spot as the field battled side-by-side for the spots
behind him. Weinkauf was able to pull ahead of Nelson for one
lap only. It was a very close finish, with Nelson winning,
Weinkauf second, Gregorich third, Hintz fourth and VanDerGeest
fifth.
The CarQuest super stock feature was riddled with cautions.
Larry Schultz led the first three laps. Travis Zvolena led the
next four. Lap seven the caution flew for the spun car of
Schultz. On the restart, Brian Weinfurter overtook Zvolena for
the lead. Cale Laessig was racing third, but also passed Zvolena
a couple of laps later for second. Wes Coon raced in the fourth
spot with Chad Scholl fifth. The next caution flew on lap 11 for
the spun car of Scholl. Weinfurter continued to lead with
Laessig, Coon, Zvolena and Randy Meyer racing hard in the field.
Coon passed Weinfurter for the lead on lap 15 and held on for
the win. Laessig second, Weinfurter third, Meyer fourth and
Zvolena fifth.
The 4-Cylinder feature had many position changes as the field
raced three, four and even five-wide at times. Erin Schlough led
the first three laps. Dan McGiveron led the next four, but was
forced to pit due to sparks flying out from under his car. Steve
Hauser then claimed the lead. Adam Krzykowski raced second,
Steve Stewart third, Derk Hauser fourth and Kyle Opelt fifth.
Stewart took second on the tenth lap and began working for the
lead. Steve Hauser held onto the lead and as he and Stewart came
out of four to receive the checkers, Stewart dove to the inside
lane, but Hauser pulled ahead for the win. Stewart second,
Krzykowski third, Derk Hauser fourth and Kyle Opelt fifth.
Wayne Dietz led the entire 1-Man Cruiser feature. Lester Kuehn
came from the back to the front to finish second. Justin Moore
third, Kyle Rasmussen fourth and Ron Sischo fifth.
The pure stock had four lead changes. Tom Podratz led the first
two. Then Chad Simone led a lap. Kyle Genett led three laps,
until Mike Gwidt took the lead for the win. Genett finished
second, Simone third, Behrens fourth and John Kundinger fifth.
