June 12, 2006;
Marshfield, WI: - The Marshfield Area Chamber of Commerce
& Industry (MACCI) Business After 5 at the races brought many
business people out from Marshfield and the surrounding areas.
Our apologies to everyone that was expecting Randy LaJoie, he
was unable to make his appearance due to airplane trouble that
left him stranded at the Indianapolis airport. We are working on
re-scheduling his appearance for the 2006 season.
Fast qualifiers for the evening were Chris Weinkauf in
the super lates and Steve Stewart in the 4-cylinder division.
Dean LaPointe of Marshfield, Elliott Weiler of Marshfield and
Eugene Gregorich Jr. of Kewaunee all picked up heat wins in the
super lates. Wayne Elmhorst of Neillsville won the first
4-cylinder heat, with Ricky Brandl winning the second heat.
The 30 lap super late model feature was led by Bob Danes from
his pole position start. On lap seven, Jason Weinkauf passed
Danes for the lead on the inside. The following lap, Eugene
Gregorich Jr. came up from running in third, to the inside of
Weinkauf to take the lead. The spun car of Mark Kraus brought
out the caution on lap nine. When the race resumed, Gregorich
continued his lead, Weinkauf second, Ben Pettis third, Danes
fourth and Mark Eswein fifth. Lap 11, Danes and Eswein made
contact in turns one and two, causing a spin that collected both
Elliott Weiler and John Froelich, the caution was out. Shortly
after, the rains came, forcing the race to be postponed. This
race will be completed on June 24th.
The super late model semi-feature was led entirely by Dean
LaPointe. DuWayne Davis and Kyle Davis, both raced in the second
spot, but it was Rory Melbinger that took it for the checkered.
LaPointe and Melbinger’s one, two finish earned both of them a
spot in the feature.
The 20 lap 4-cylinder feature was led by Ricky Brandl for the
first six laps. Jeremiah Strauss then took the lead. Kyle Opelt
was quickly making his way through the field that was racing
three, four and sometimes five-wide. Mike Havel was also coming
through to the front. Opelt made his move for the lead to the
outside of Strauss and completed the pass on lap 16. Soon to be
lapped traffic was in front of the leader as they raced to the
finish. Opelt and Havel made contact in turns three and four as
they raced towards the checkered. There was a spin due to the
contact. The race was scored according to the white flag lap,
with Opelt and Havel to the rear. Strauss won, JJ Flick second,
Brandl third, Steve Stewart fourth and Don Dunow fifth.
The IROC Saturn race for Don Nikolai Construction was won by Rob
Nikolai. Racing with Rob was Jay Schreiner, Kipp Schreiner, Mike
Zimmerman, Dewey Schutz and Paul Tremelling.
