Cox Hoosier
Outlaw Winged Sprint Victorious!
Back & Genett Take Feature Wins!

August 26, 2007;
Marshfield, WI: - Race fans were treated to some heart
thumping, adrenaline pumping pure speed at Marshfield Super
Speedway this Saturday night. The extra excitement came courtesy
of the Hoosier Outlaw Winged Sprints series, which brought in
cars driving with 800 horsepower. This special event was
sponsored by Nasonville Dairy, Weber’s Farm Store, WAXX 104.5
and Rock N Roll To Go.
At the end of the night, Tim Cox nabbed his
second Hoosier Outlaw Winged Sprints feature win at the speedway
and the the fast time honors, turning his fastest lap at 14.871.
Brian Back dominated the CarQuest Super Stock division, with his
sixth feature win this year and Kyle Genett took top honors in
the Pure Stocks.
Even the most casual of race fan would have to admit to scooting
to the edge of the seat as the field of winged sprints rumbled
by to start the high-velocity feature race. Tim Cox, who had
claimed the fast time during qualifying, had already leapt to
third place in the second lap of the race. Kris Leming managed
to keep the top slot that he started in and Jerry Caryer was
running in second. But, that wouldn’t last long as Cox took
second place in the eighth lap. One lap later, with a dramatic
fake to the outside groove and a quick move to the inside, Cox
ripped the lead away from Leming.
And once Cox had the lead, there was no stopping him as he
sailed away with a powerful showing of his car’s prowess over
the rest of the pack. But, he was reined because the race was
peppered with several cautions, which were caused for a variety
of reasons including cars running out of fuel and others losing
control. One of the most exciting cautions of the night happened
when Leming took the outside groove to try to take second place
back from Caryer. But Leming went too wide, sending his car up
the bank into the grass and almost hitting a sign. Amazingly,
Leming kept control and was able to steer the car back to the
track and get back into the race.
On every restart Cox jetted ahead of the pack to protect his
lead. In lap 16, on the restart Greg Wheeler charged from fifth
place to third in a blink of an eye. Just as Wheeler was about
to pass Caryer on the outside for second, Caryer dropped down to
the dirt because of low fuel and another caution flag flew.
Wheeler made a last push to take the checkered at the end of the
race, but Cox held on to win-even though he later said that he
“ran out of fuel with two laps to go.” Wheeler had to settle for
second, Thomas Meseraull was third, Ron Koehler was fourth and
Jason Fuller was fifth.

The CarQuest Super Stock feature didn’t disappoint, as Brian
Back once again dominated the asphalt. By the sixth lap, he had
zig zagged his way up from his ninth place start to rip first
place away from Travis Zvolena on the outside groove. From then
on, the other racers were forced to play a game of catch him if
you can. Turns out, they couldn’t.
Lap eight, Rick Grunden was side by side with Zvolena for
second, taking it on the outside in turn one. Back took the
feature win and the Krings Motorsports award, Grunden finished
second, Zvolena held on to third, Mike Gwidt was fourth and
Jimmy Ganski was fifth. Extra payout was sponsored courtesy of
RZ Builders LLC.
The Pure Stock feature got off to an exciting start as Kyle
Genett pushed it three-wide from the inside in the first lap of
the race, causing a caution. The field restarted, and per track
rules, Genett was sent to the back of the pack. But that didn’t
stop Genett, who was back to the front fighting Ryan Mork for
second place by the fourth lap of the race. The race went three
wide again as Mork went on the inside of Gary Haarklau, who was
leading. Genett went on the outside, which is allowed. Now, Mork
and Genett were in the fight for the top spot. They were side by
side for several laps. Eventually, Genett nosed out a small
lead. But, a lapped car aided his lead. The two leaders went
three wide with the lapped car, and Genett came out with the
advantage. Genett won the race, Mork finished second, Gary
Haarklau third, Coletta Gomes fourth and Troy Chase fifth.
