Chris Weinkauf Wins Season Championship Feature!
Back, Hauser & Mork in the Winners Circle!

September 8, 2007; Marshfield, WI: - Season Championship and the pace car giveway night brought many new faces out to the speedway. The highest car count of the season in three of the four divisions. The night’s events were sponsored by the pace car sponsors, WDEZ 101.9, King’s Campers, Brickner Family, Abby Gas Service, Subway, CarQuest, The Home Front and Cellcom. Blake Horstman was the un-beatable man in qualifying setting the quickest CarQuest super late model lap. Brian Back was the only CarQuest super stock to set a 19 second lap, earning himself fast time. Kyle Opelt topped the 4-cylinder qualifying efforts. Kyle Genett set the quickest pure stock lap.

In addition to all the races on deck for the evening, four of the Mid-American Stock Car Series drivers, made an appearance for a short race just before intermission. They will be returning, a long with many of their competitors, on Saturday, September 22nd as part of the Fall Spectacular. Lyle Nowak came from last to first during the ten lap contest. Kyle Shear finished second, Bobby Gutknecht third and Troy Shear fourth.

Drivers brought everything they had to the Season Championship race Saturday night at the Marshfield Super Speedway. A few features delivered side by side action to the very end while in others, one racer dominated. Chris Weinkauf took home the Super Late Model feature win, Brian Back took the Super Stock feature win, Derk Hauser won the 4-Cylinder feature, and Ryan Mork won in the Pure Stocks.

On top of all this, World Financial Group brought out the Carl Edwards Busch series race car. Allowing fans to get their picture taken and kids a chance to sit in the car. A special thanks to World Financial Group and WDEZ 101.9 for putting this all together.

In the CarQuest Super Late Model feature 22 cars took to the half-mile, Chris Weinkauf had already used the inside groove to bull his way to first place by the fourth lap. He dominated for the rest of the race. The rest of the pack couldn’t catch him even though there were two restarts from cautions. Jason Weinkauf was able to take second place off the restart in lap 10. In the next lap, Mark Eswein took third place on the inside. Another caution, in lap 20 brought the field back together. Jason Weinkauf showed some sibling rivalry, trying to catch his brother after the restart. But, Chris Weinkauf prevailed and won the checkered and the Beway Race Products feature win award. Jason Weinkauf took second, Mark Eswein third, Blake Horstman fourth and Jeremy Switlick fifth. The 2007 CarQuest super late model championship was final tonight, Eugene Gregorich Jr. winning back to back season championships.

There was no time for the crowd to catch their breath during the 20 car field CarQuest Super Stock feature. Early on, a couple of cautions slowed down the pace. But after the second restart, it was nothing but action up front. Chad Scholl, who started in the poll position, was able to keep the lead until the seventh lap, where he dropped out of the race from apparent car trouble. That left Jimmy Ganski in the lead. With six laps to go, Brian Back threaded the needle between Randy Emmerich and Travis Zvolena to take third place. That put him right behind Ganski and Rick Grunden, who were running first and second. Back took second in turn four with only three laps to go. In the last lap, Ganski and Back fought for the lead and were nose to nose at the finish. But, Back inched out the win and another Krings Motorsports feature win award. Ganski was second, Grunden third, Brian Weinfuter fourth and Randy Emmerich fifth. Brian Back won his first ever championship at Marshfield Super Speedway, taking the 2007 CarQuest Super Stock title.

Derk Hauser dominated the 4-Cylinder feature race. He took the lead on the first lap and didn’t look back. For most of the contest, the action was in the race for second. In the fifth lap, Jeremiah Strauss took second place on the outside in the front stretch. Also in fifth lap, Kyle Opelt took third place. Later, in the seventh lap, Opelt used the inside groove to take second from Strauss. Towards the end of the race, Opelt took advantage of some lapped traffic to catch Hauser, who had been running far ahead of the field. He drew the audience to the edge of their chairs as he almost caught Hauser. They were side by side at the finish line, but Hauser held him off for the win and the Westside Service feature win award. Opelt went home with second, Jeremiah Strauss took third, Ricky Brandl fourth and Donald Dunow fifth.

In the Pure Stock feature, Ryan Mork annihilated the competition. In the first lap, he took it three wide on the outside with Coletta Gomes who was in first, and Gary Haarklau who was in second. He zoomed past both to take the lead, which he kept for the rest of the race. In the second lap, Kyle Genett took second from Haarklau on the outside. The top two ran well ahead of the rest of the pack for the remainder of the race. Mork won, Genett stayed in second, Dean Ashbacher was third, Haarklau fourth and Gomes finished fifth. Mork, with the win, was able to claim the bounty on Genett, taking home an extra $250. Kyle Genett, with a very strong season, won the 2007 pure stock championship.

Trophies for Season Championship night were sponsored by the Marshfield Visitors & Convention Bureau. Drivers could earn a trophy based on the number of points accumulated tonight which included qualifying, heat and feature. The CarQuest super late model top three were Chris Weinkauf, Jason Weinkauf and Mark Eswein. The CarQuest super stocks of Brian Back and Rick Grunden were tied for first with Brian Weinfurter third. Another tie in the pure stocks for first place, between Ryan Mork and Kyle Genett, third place went to Dean Ashbacher. The 4-cylinder and junkyard warrior season championship trophies will be awarded next Saturday.

The 2007 Season Championship trophies will be awarded at the Marshfield Super Speedway Awards Banquet at the Marshfield Eagles Club on Friday, November 9, 2007.

The 4-Cylinder powder puff race was won by Missy Pitts.

WI Challenge Series Season Championship, plus 4-Cylinder and Junkyard Warrior season championships next Saturday, September 15th. Pit gates open at 2 p.m., practice starts at 3:30, grandstand gates open at 5 p.m., racing starts at 7 p.m. Featuring the WI Challenge series late models racing an 80 Lap Feature 4-Cylinders, Junkyard Warriors and a Powder Puff Race. Marshfield Super Speedway is located 3.5 miles west of Marshfield on County Road H with weekly Saturday night stock car racing April through September. Adult grandstand admission is just $12.00, Students ages 10-15 yrs. $6.00 and under 10 yrs FREE with a parent. Rain dated for Sunday all events two hours earlier.
