June 12, 2007;
Marshfield, WI: - It was a hot night for racing, but the
action on the track was even hotter for this annual Tuesday
night special race. The guests of the Marshfield Super Speedway
for the Marshfield Area Chamber of Commerce & Industry Business
After 5 race night were treated to edge of your seat excitement
on the track. Plenty of three and some times four wide racing,
in all three divisions racing tonight. Neil Knoblock returned
fresh from his win the last time the super lates raced, to pick
up fast time. Jeremiah Strauss earned another quick time award
in the four-cylinder division. Kyle Genett made his fourth clean
sweep in four race nights at MSS.
Monte Gress took the lead from his pole position
start of the CarQuest super late model. Elliott Weiler dropped
in behind him and began to work in the inside groove to take
away the lead. Weiler led lap three at the stripe, but then it
was back to Gress to lead the field. Weiler now had to contend
with Cale Laessig to defend the second position. Ben Pettis and
Chris Weinkauf battled door to door while M.G. Gajewski looked
for his chance to move up a spot. On lap seven, Pettis and
Gajewski passed Weiler three wide going into turn three. The
next lap, deeper in the pack, Eugene Gregorich Jr. made his
first three-wide pass of the race, on the outside, to gain a
couple of spots. Lap nine, Laessig took charge of the lead from
Gress. Lap ten, Gregorich made his second three-wide pass on the
outside to position himself in fourth. Gajewski was wasting no
time in the front, challenging Laessig for that lead. Lap 11,
Weinkauf was trying to work to the inside of Gajewski, while
Gregorich continue to run in the third groove. Gajewski made the
move to over take the lead from Laessig, but behind him
Gregorich made his final three-wide pass of the race, moving up
into second. Gregorich then passed Gajewski for the lead with 12
laps remaining. Pettis was still on the hunt for a better
position. Pettis took third from Laessig, the following lap, but
second would be more of a challenge. After an eight lap battle,
Pettis took the second spot away from Gajewski. Neil Knoblock
had been racing steadily in the middle of the field, and broke
into the top five on lap 16. With a few short laps to go,
Weinkauf moved up into third. At the white, Knoblock stole
fourth from Gajewski. Gregorich won, taking home another Krings
Motorsport feature win award. Pettis second, Weinkauf third,
Knoblock fourth and Gajewski fifth.
The 4-cylinder feature’s first five laps were led by Andy Dean,
this being only his second time in the car. Danny Zahn worked
the inside to take away the lead. Brad Conant had a different
plan though. Conant jumped to the outside and made the pass for
the lead stick on lap six. One of only two cautions of all three
feature races flew on lap seven, for the spun machine of Zahn in
turn four. Zahn was forced to pit, but was able to re-join the
field for the re-start. Behind the leader at the re-start, Don
Dunow took the outside groove, while Adam Eckes chose inside.
The outside was definitely the right choice for Dunow, as he
passed Conant for the lead already on the eighth lap. Jeremiah
Strauss, fast timer, and JJ Flick were charging through the
field, working to catch Dunow. Strauss took third on lap nine
and then second on lap ten. Strauss began to challenge for that
lead, but Dunow battled back, strongly holding onto the lead.
The race was called complete on the white flag lap, due to the
spun car of Paul Berg, coming out of turn four. Dunow won,
earning the Westside Service feature win award. Strauss second,
Flick third, A. Eckes fourth and Kyle Opelt fifth.
Four-wide racing was the beginning of the pure stock feature.
Coletta Gomes led that first lap, but Kyle Genett, just motored
out in front. Gary Haarklau was look for his opportunity, but it
wouldn’t come. Haarklau soon found his hands full defending his
position. Troy Engman making his first appearance this season,
worked on Haarklau for second. Genett picked up his fourth clean
sweep. Haarklau second, Enman third, Ryan Mork fourth and Gomes
fifth.
